We drove right across Germany.

Not for a concert.
Not for a weekend away.

For a solar eclipse.

Back then, it was something you simply had to experience.

We stood alongside hundreds of other people. Everyone looked up. Everyone waited for the very same moment.

When the sun disappeared, everything suddenly fell silent.

Not just in the sky.

Inside us too.

I still remember it to this day.

And now?

Twenty-seven years later.

No group of friends.

No event.

No crowds.

I'm sitting alone on my boat in Friesland, having found a spot where I want to watch the upcoming solar eclipse.

A place I've never been before.

When I arrived, my first thought was:

"Well... it's alright."

But then I stayed.

I looked around.

And noticed something I had almost overlooked.

This place is beautiful.

Not at first glance.

At second glance.

Perhaps that's the real message.

 

Hidden Treasures are rarely found where we first choose to look.

Right now, life feels a little... out of alignment for many people.

Old certainties no longer hold.

Careers change.

Friendships change.

The lives we imagined for ourselves change.

And sometimes you wake up in the morning with that strange feeling:

"I'm not even sure where I'm heading anymore."

Do you know that feeling?

If you do, you've probably arrived exactly where something new is waiting to begin.

Not because you've taken a wrong turn.

But because your inner map is being redrawn.

 

The last solar eclipse we'll experience in Europe.

For the next hundred years.

What an extraordinary thought.

Of course, the sun will rise again tomorrow.

But this one moment...

...will never come back for us.

Some events remind us that time doesn't simply pass.

It decides.

Not against us.

But in favour of one question:

If not now... when?

 

The Right Pair of Glasses.

When it comes to a solar eclipse, we all know one thing:

Without protective glasses, you shouldn't look directly at the sun.

The light is blinding.

It can damage your eyes.

Life is often remarkably similar.

We need glasses there too.

Not made of glass.

But made of clarity.

A lens that helps us recognise the difference between...

...other people's expectations.

...our old conditioning.

...our fears.

...and our own truth.

Because astonishingly often, what we call intuition is actually nothing more than an old story we've been telling ourselves for years.

"You'll never manage that."

"You're too old for that."

"Better stay where it's safe."

Sound familiar?

Then perhaps it's time to take those glasses off.

Maybe they stopped being yours a long time ago.

 

Why Solar Eclipses Move Us So Deeply.

I don't believe it's only the spectacle in the sky.

It's that brief feeling that something familiar disappears.

For a moment, everything grows dark.

And right there...

...our minds begin inventing stories.

Perhaps that's exactly why so many people become unexpectedly emotional around a solar eclipse.

Because what's happening outside makes visible what has been happening within for a long time.

Something old is leaving.

Something new hasn't quite arrived yet.

And it's between those two worlds that we find ourselves.

Just as I'm sitting here now on my boat.

Looking out towards the horizon.

Without knowing exactly which shore I'll sail towards next.

But with the feeling that it already exists.

 

Perhaps your new direction begins right now.

Not tomorrow.

Not after your next holiday.

Not when everything is finally perfect.

Perhaps right now.

Right in the middle of the transition.

Between what was and what will be.

Perhaps you don't need to know every answer.

Perhaps it's enough simply to be honest today.

With yourself.

 

✨ Hidden Treasure

As I'm writing this article, something suddenly becomes clear:

In 1999, I set off to witness a celestial event.

Today, I set off to discover which version of myself wants to step back into the light after this solar eclipse.

And perhaps...

...that is the real Hidden Treasure.

Not the solar eclipse.

But the person who emerges afterwards.
